NEW ENERGY-STAR LAUNDRY MACHINES ARRIVING SOON!
Posted on Jan 31, 2010 Comments (0)
Facilities Committee Requests Feedback on Laundry Rooms
Arlington Oaks is going to receive new, more energy-efficient equipment soon in all the laundry rooms. Please note, the Facilities Committee does NOT manage the equipment nor the prices for the machines.
Before the new equipment arrives the Facilities Committee is going to inspect the rooms and suggest improvements to the Board. For instance, we know of at least one laundry room that hasn't been painted in over 10 years. If you have any suggestions or comments about how your laundry room functions or the appearance of the room please contact the Facilities Committee. We are interested in hearing about doors not working, issues with lighting, indoor air quality, etc. We can't help you if someone takes your clothes out of the dryer, if you are missing a sock, or if you are unhappy about the price. You can email us at facilities@arlingtonoaks.com. Be sure to include the address of your laundry room in your comment. We need to hear from you before January 29, 2010.

WASHINGTON AQUEDUCT ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY DISINFECTANT CHANGE
Annual change helps keep District, Arlington County and Falls Church water pipes clean.
WASHINGTON — Beginning on Feb. 1, and continuing through May 17, 2010, the Washington Aqueduct will temporarily change the disinfectant used in its water treatment process from chloramine to chlorine.
The change is part of a joint annual program to keep water pipes clean and free of potentially harmful bacteria. The Washington Aqueduct is the organization responsible for treating the water for the District of Columbia, Arlington County, Va., and Falls Church City, Va., including portions of Fairfax County served by Falls Church City.
A temporary switch to chlorine is a standard water treatment practice. The short-term use of chlorine is important for maintaining high water quality throughout the year, but will temporarily increase disinfection byproducts during this period. Disinfection byproducts are formed when chlorine reacts with natural material found in the Potomac River, and may be associated with reproductive and long-term health effects
2009 Replacement Reserve Study (FINAL) Available Here: Reserve Study
Replacement reserves are a way of identifying, quantifying, and budgeting needed monies to fund future major building repairs and replacements. As properties age, expenditures for replacements and improvements are imperative to maintaining the asset and its competitive position in the market. Insufficient funding of replacement reserves may result in significant physical deterioration, functional obsolescence, more costly future expenditures, and will impact value, use, and aesthetics.

Do You Have "Watersense"?
Launched in 2006, WaterSense is an EPA-sponsored partnership program that seeks to protect the future of our nation's water supply by promoting water efficiency and enhancing the market for water-efficient products, programs, and practices.
WaterSense brings together local water utilities and governments, product manufacturers, retailers, consumers, and other stakeholders to:
- Decrease indoor and outdoor non-agricultural water use through the adoption of more efficient products and practices.
- Help consumers make water-efficient choices, including differentiating between products and services in the marketplace and adopting simple daily activities that reduce water use.
- Encourage innovation in manufacturing
- Establish and standardize rigorous certification criteria that ensure product efficiency, performance, and quality.
- WaterSense helps consumers identify water-efficient products and programs that meet WaterSense water efficiency and performance criteria. Products carrying the WaterSense label perform well, help save money, and encourage innovation in manufacturing.
- WaterSense partners with manufacturers, retailers and distributors, and utilities to bring WaterSense labeled products to the marketplace and make it easy to purchase high-performing, water-efficient products.
What does this mean to you? Answer: We, as a community, have opportunities to save money and protect our environment.
